size 3.75mm (uk9 us5)
double knitting wool  

could use any type of wool :  choose needles to suit wool 
thicker wool = larger shape for same number of rows


               cast on 3 stitches 
row 1      increase 1;  knit 1;  increase 1              5sts
row 2      increase into each stitch                      10sts

               divide onto 3 needles  (4,2,4)
                 and continue in the round

round 1  (increase 1 k1) 5 times                         15st   (6,3,6)
round 2  (increase 1 k2) 5 times                         20st   (8,4,8)
round 3  (increase 1 k3) 5 times                         25st   (10,5,10)
round 4  (increase 1 k4  5 times                         30st   (12,6,12)
round 5  (increase 1 k5) 5 times                         35st   (14,7,14)
round 6  (increase 1 k6) 5 times                         40st   (16,8,16)
